Abstract

SummaryMonolayer cultures derived by enzymatic dispersion of neonatal hamster pancreas consist predominantly of AF+-granulated epithelioid cells, release newly synthesized immunoreactive insulin, and respond to the insulinotropic action of glucose and tolbutamide. These findings provide evidence that endocrinologically competent beta cells are present in these pancreatic monolayer cultures.
