Abstract

This chapter discusses neurological studies on monoimine neurotransmiters and scopolamine treatment. The effects of scopolamine on monoamlne metabolism were studied in rat's brain. The concentration of dopamine, norepinephrine, and 5-hydroxytriptamine was spectrophotofluorometrically measured in various brain structures after acute and chronic (21 days) treatment of animals by scopolamine. It was found that the content of dopamine and norepinephrine was markedly influenced by the pattern of scopolamine treatment. An acute administration of scopolamine significantly decreased, while chronic pretreatment failed to show any effect on catecholamine content in rat's brain.
