Abstract
This paper investigates a Non-Destructive Testing based on ultrasonic Coda Wave Interferometry technique to determine if it can be an efficient way to continuously and quantitatively measure the thickness loss due to corrosion on an S355 grade steel in 3 wt% NaCl distilled water. To do so, several electrochemical experiments in open circuit potentials and imposed anodic dissolutions (from few to tens of micrometers) are performed at stable and varying temperatures (20–30 °C) in aqueous NaCl. The thickness loss and corrosion rate are continuously measured with CWI thanks to a piezoelectric trasducer and verified post-experiment with an optical depth profile measurement.
