Abstract

AbstractDrought mainly causes damage to agricultural land and affect livestock, human activity. This study mainly dealt with the drought during the kharif season (Jun–Oct) in Maharashtra state. Drought of Maharashtra is measured by using Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). During the kharif season, some area of Maharashtra have less rainfall and high temperature. For calculation of Standardized Precipitation Index, the collection of 16 days average rainfall data is done from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). According to its range, the Standardized Precipitation Index was classified into different classes. There are seven classes in which above than +2 show extreme wet condition and less than -2 show extreme dry conditions. According to the SPI value many areas of Maharashtra were affected by the drought during 2013 kharif season and affected agricultural land.
