Abstract

Quasi-elastic electron scattering from 12 C in the range of four-momentum transfer 5 fm −2 ≦ q 2 ≦ fm −2 was measured. The momentum distribution of the bound state protons derived from this experiment shows a large tail of high momenta. Nuclear wave functions including short range nucleon-nucleon correlations with a parameter q c = 300 MeV/ c give a better fit to the data than pure shell model wave functions.
