Abstract

A novel process for synthesizing ceramic powders in molten salt is presented. Dissimilar to the traditional mechanochemical process, the novel process is based on a chemical reaction in the liquid phase (molten salt). The results show that Mo 2C powder could be successfully synthesized using this method. The end-product was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersion X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy. The mechanism of the reaction in molten salt is discussed.
