Abstract

Abstract The discovery of a transition at 4.8K to a three-dimensional ferromagnetic state in the molecular electron transfer salt [FeCp*2][TCNE] and the recent report of ferrimagnetism in the molecular based V(TCNE)x'Y(CH 2Cl2) adds magnetism to the list of cooperative phenomena now possible in molecular/organic/polymer materials. In this report we review our progress in the study of molecular/polymeric materials that feature a magnetic ground state with a net moment, present a brief discussion of the development of magnetic exchange in these molecular based magnets, and summarize magnetic phenomena in these systems. Emphasis is placed on recent developments in the high Tcmolecular magnet systems including the treatment of their magnetic behavior within the framework of a correlated spin glass (CSG)/ferrimagnet with wandering axis (FWA) formalism. The central role of the relative magnitudes of magnetic exchange, randomness in magnetic exchange, magnetic anisotropy, and randomness in magnetic anisotropy is...
