Abstract

A study was made of a polymer prepared from bis-(4-oxy-3-methylphenyl)-2,2-propane and terephthalic acid chloride by low temperature polycondensation in solution. Experimental gravimetric distribution functions q w ( M) were given for different extents of completion of the reaction, p and it was shown that the standard deviation of the gravimetric distribution function increases with an increase in p. Parameters of K ν and a calculated in the Mark-Kuhn-Houwink equation retain constant values in the range of molecular weights studied. A deviation of MWD from the “most probable” value was observed at all stages of polyesterification.
