Abstract
The linear-chain compound Ru 2(O 2CCMePh 2) 4Cl was prepared by reaction of Ru 2(O 2CCH 3) 4Cl with 2,2-diphenylpropionic acid. The compound has been characterized by X-ray crystallography and magnetic susceptibility measurements from ca 2 to 300 K. The chloride ligands bridge the dinuclear units into linear chains. The RuRu′, RuO (carboxylate) and RuCl distances are 2.2893(9), 2.030(5) and 2.5016(6) Å, respectively. There is an antiferromagnetic electronic interaction between dinuclear units with J (coupling constant) = −10.9 cm −1. The magnetic moment of Ru 2(O 2CCMePh 2) 4Cl at 300 K is 4.4 μ B, which indicates three unpaired electrons in each dinuclear unit.
