Abstract

The oxidation halfwave potentials, E/2, of twenty-two methy!eneindene-, methylenefluorene derivatives and six aromatic compounds have been determined in acetonitrile, using the Ag/Ag'reference eectrode isolated from the test solutions, The values correlated with the adiabatic ionization potentials, 1., which were calculated on the basis of Ehrensons method. The correlation gave a linear relationship regardless of alternant or non-alternant compounds. On the other hand, the linear relationship between the Eii2 of the six aromatic compounds and their photoionization potentials was found similar to the above case. We concluded that L, could be used to calculate not only the photoionization potentical itself, but also the tmlnown Ei/2 ef the similar derivatives.
