Abstract

Abstract It is shown that serious problems arise with the usual classification and proposed mechanisms for polymorphic transitions in crystals. On the basis of the investigation of polymorphic transitions in molecular crystals, we propose here an alternative scheme which, we believe, avoids these problems and more successfully explains the behavior of real crystals during polymorphic transitions than previous schemes have done.
