Abstract

This article outlines the historical foundations of gene theory as it relates to behavioral genetics and provides an overview of developmental behavioral genetics and developmental psychobiology, as these fields relate to contemporary molecular behavioral genetics. These latter theoretical approaches stand in stark contrast to traditional quantitative behavioral genetic models. An overview of recent findings in molecular genetics suggests that a more developmental and transactional approach to understanding the relationship between genes, behavior, and environmental influences.
