Abstract
Detection of a small amount of molecules dissolved in a solution in a micro channel using surface-enhanced Raman scattering due to silver nanoparticles formed from silver-oxide thin films was examined. A transparent silver-oxide thin film was chosen for the detection system, since the system required that the micro channel, which was arranged behind the silver-oxide thin film, should be visible by an optical microscope. It was revealed that the system worked well for the molecular detection in a micro channel, and that the system was sensitive enough to detect as few as ⩽300 benzoic acid molecules.
