Abstract
ABSTRACT Moisture adsorption by dry corn and rice in jute and woven polypropylene bags was studied. After 90 days of storage at 90% relative humidity and 26.7** C, the moisture content at the surface of a stack of bags of shelled com (14% initial moisture content) increased to about 15.8% and 15.5% in jute and polypropylene bags, respectively. For rough rice (12% initial moisture content), the corresponding moistures were about 13.4% and 13.3%. Grain in jute bags adsorbed moisture more readily than grain in polypropylene bags.
