Abstract

The simulator described in the paper enables the offline representation of a full duplex telephone channel for the purposes of evaluating and monitoring the performance of high speed data transceivers. This modular simulator allows the independent introduction of channel distortions, noise, and local and remote echoes. This makes a transceiver specification easier and more accurate, as the behaviour and recovery of the system under a variety of line conditions can be evaluated independently or in cascade. The resultant channel impulse response can be derived in a format suitable for implementation in a real time environment.
