Abstract

A three dimensional model for hydrodynamics and sediment transport (SAM-3D) is applied to the «baie de Seine» area (English Channel) in order to simulate the turbid structures (turbidity maximum in the Seine estuary and turbid plume of the Seine river). This model is able to satisfactorily reproduce the high suspended matter concentrations observed in the turbidity maximum (a few g·L –1) as well as the increasing suspended matter concentrations in the river plume (few mg·L –1) along the annual cycle. This study gives an insight on the contribution of the Seine river inputs to deposits of fine particles in the eastern baie de Seine.
