Abstract
Extends integral variable structure model following control (IVSMFC) for the control of a synchronous generator. The controller proposed is based on integral variable structure control (IVSC), which has the feature of being insensitive to disturbances and parameter variations. When the system is in sliding mode, the dynamic response of the generator following that of a prespecified reference model, the controller can simultaneously improve the dynamic performances of the synchronous generator in terminal voltage and damping of oscillation. Procedures for determining the control function, the coefficients of the sliding surface and the integral control gain are detailed. Simulation results are compared to the standard IEEE type-I voltage regulator with a PI type power system stabilizer to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
