Abstract

The influence of different doping ions on the emission and scintillation characteristics of PbWO 4 scintillator was studied. In the case of Ce doping, efficient non-radiative recombination at Ce sites takes place, resulting in lower light yield and faster luminescence and scintillation response. Low temperature thermoluminescence characteristics resemble those obtained earlier for La 3+ (Y 3+, Lu 3+, Gd 3+) doping ions. Tb 3+, Sm 3+ and Pr 3+ doping results in an additional emission—the leading emission lines are obtained at 543, 641 and 602 nm, respectively. Corresponding decay times were measured to be 650, 848 and 61 μs at 295 K, respectively.
