Abstract

Since laws prohibiting interracial marriages were abolished, the United States has seen an increase in interracial relationships. Individuals in interracial relationships experience the typical challenges of partnered life; however, these relationships also have the potential to face additional challenges existing in a racialized society. Individuals in interracial relationships are experiencing increased anxiety due to heated public debate concerning racial justice, immigration reform, and even direct attacks on certain minority groups. This analysis investigates the challenges of interracial relationships and provides clinicians with insight into their unique challenges. Further, this article discusses implications for clinicians encountering this population in clinical settings.
