Abstract

Integrated environmental system modeling is a promising practice to better understand interactions between the human and major components of environmental systems. Spatially-explicit modeling approach is a natural choice for those modeling activities because landscape is one of few shared components across all models. In this chapter, authors first present several examples of integrated environmental modeling, then explain the importance and role of spatially-explicit landscape in those efforts. After that, authors review current applications of modern accelerator technologies in environmental modeling. At last, authors identify the several potential research of integrated environmental system model, which could further be developed in the near future using modern accelerator technologies.
