The effect appears strongly in the forbidden O I 6300/63 A and forbidden S II 6716/31 A emission lines. It is assumed that this emission is produced by light scattering by dust in the preshock region. A series of theoretical position-velocity diagrams in forbidden S II A 6731 is presented, based on the single-scattering approximation. The models assume a spherical emitting source moving through a stationary gas cloud. The theoretical position-velocity diagrams with optical depths between about 0.1 and 0.01 seem to account for the broad blueshifted emission and its integrated intensity.
