Abstract

This paper presents models for evaluating the contour quality of a toroidal cutter with a concave-arc generator and a cylindrical shank. Taking the axis of the minimum circumscribed cylinder of measured data on the cutter shank as the datum axis, models are developed to investigate the minimum circumscribed concave-arc revolving surface and the minimum circumscribed toroidal revolving surface. Illustrative examples are given to verify the validity of these models. This paper provides a reference for evaluating the contour quality of this type of revolving cutter.
