Abstract
The present study points out some important limitations of traditional observational studies, with the aim of proposing a systemic-complex, tactical-strategic observational model in soccer (SOTEF). Based on original concepts from systemic and complexity sciences, we developed SOTEF, which we think will be useful both for coaches in their professional practice and for researchers in the study of soccer and other team sports. If so, we will also be helping to reduce the gap that currently separates academic production and professional practice.
