Abstract

This paper presents the mathematical approaches for modelling the different types of voltage sag events due to faults, transformer energizing and induction motor starting in power systems. For different types of voltage sag events, the waveforms obtained from mathematical approaches are compared with actual power system waveforms. It can be seen from comparisons that the waveforms from mathematical models match with the waveforms of actual power system. As a result, voltage sag waveforms having different characteristics can be easily generated in any number and range by using the presented models. In order to investigate the factors causing voltage sags in power systems and adverse effects of voltage sag on sensitive devices, large-scale test data set can be also produced by these models.
