Abstract

This paper proposes a mathematical model of the evolution of viruses. The model allows computer-assisted determination of ancestry among viruses. We establish a bi-directional correlation between the evolutionary tree of a group of related viruses and the inhibitive relatedness among those viruses. In particular, we show how to generate the evolution tree from data about the ability of some viruses to induce antibodies inhibiting other viruses.
