Abstract

Yih's model for the computation of the velocity and temperature fields in a turbulent buoyant two-dimensional plume is reexamined. It is shown that, by means of a suitable calibration, the analytical solution of the model is in good agreement with experimental results, although some discrepancy remains. The hypothesis of the model are critically discussed, identifying the role of each of them in the remaining differences between theory and experiments.
