Abstract

PD is a main problem in insulation for high voltage (HV) that can lead to electrical degradation and damage to the insulation materials. PDs occur when the local electric field exceeds the threshold value and results in a partial breakdown of the surrounding medium. PD detection is formed in order to determine the condition of the insulating material in HV elements such as cables and covered conductor. Thus, this paper presents the modelling of power networks for PD signal measurement which involve a power source, transformer, power cables and loads. EMTP-ATP software is used in this study for modelling the single power line for PD measurement. Step by step to model the main component by ATP-Draw have been shown in this paper. The line communicates converter (LCC) based on J-Marti type is used to represent the power cables in this simulation. The advantages of using J-Marti model are; able to design a three-phase line cable in PD detection analysis and suitable for simulation of traveling wave phenomena in long transmission lines. The RC sensor model has been used in order to capture the PD signal on the single power line.
