Abstract
A new model for a solar updraft tower is presented. It is based on a one-dimensional descriptionof the fully transient gasdynamics in an updraft power plant from the outer end of the collectorto the top of the tower. All the main physical effects are included. The model is derived frombasic gasdynamic equations, a low Mach number asymptotics is performed and numerical simulationsare shown.
