Abstract
Calculation of magnetic fields and torques presents the most important part for the motor calculation. Modern PM AC motor drives consist of the motor with the rotor magnets, inverter, feedback and controller. The discussion will be limited to the model for performance prediction of the motor. The paper describes a CAD package for calculating the magnetic and mechanical characteristics (torques) of the electronically commutated motor. The package comprises preprocessing of input data and preparation of data bases, mesh generation with automatic mesh generator, magnetic field calculation by Finite Element Method and postprocessing by use of the magnetic vector potential A.
