Abstract
The cover of the March 2015 issue of IEEE Power Electronics Magazine portrayed gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC) switching devices as superheroes, able to make next-generation power electronics smaller, faster, and more efficient in a single bound. Indeed, they are largely doing so, in conjunction with improved components and integrated circuits, better packaging, and more sophisticated circuit design and control.
