Abstract

Modeling of GPR data is important because it helps us to interpret the GPR data and constitutes the basis for many inversion schemes. Horizontally layered media are very often encountered in geological systems, and therefore, it is important to develop a very fast and robust modeling technique that can be used for inversion of GPR data in these systems. We adapted and implemented the invariant imbedding or reflectivity technique (originally developed by Kennett to model elastic waves in layered media) for modeling of GPR data in layered isotropic media. The results obtained with this technique are in excellent agreement with those obtained from the Fresnel's equations and FDTD algorithms.
