Abstract

In continuation of our work on excess molar volume V m E of non-electrolyte solutions containing acetonitrile, in this work experimental data of excess molar volume of binary mixtures of acetonitrile + (diethylamine or s-butylamine) as a function of composition under atmospheric pressure and at 288.15, 293.15, 298.15 and 303.15 K have been used to test the applicability of the Prigogine-Flory-Patterson theory. The V m E values are negative over the whole mole fraction range for all the mixtures studied. The agreement between theoretical and experimental results is satisfactory for the acetonitrile + s-butylamine system, whose V m E curves are symmetrical relative to mole fraction x = 0.5.
