Abstract
Electric vehicles (EV) provide environmentally friendly transportation, but the electric vehicle market is growing at a very slow pace due to a lack of EV charging stations, slow charging times, and grid instability during peak hours. Nowadays greenhouse gas emissions and high fuel consumption costs are caused by using a large number of conventional vehicles in the globe. To overcome this problem most of the automobile industries are moving to electric vehicles (EVs), but these EVs have a major impact on the grid due to the effect of huge power demand to re-energize the batteries. A large number of vehicle battery charging stations (VBCS) are incorporated in the utility grid, which influences the voltage profile, current profile and produces the harmonics. Due to these, the power quality of the utility grid is affected. In this paper, a new single tuned harmonic filter is designed for improving the voltage profile, current profile, and total harmonic distortion of the utility grid.
