Abstract
DC Electric rail transit system, generally, are supplied by unidirectional substations that convert AC electricity from distribution grid to DC electricity desired by transit systems. Trains, the main load of transit systems, have regenerative braking capability and can produce electricity during deceleration. This energy can be fed back to the main grid if there is a reverse path for power to flow. Reversible substations can provide this reverse path. In this paper, a reversible substation is modeled by adding an inverter in parallel with the unidirectional converters exist in the structure of a substation. The proposed model is simulated in Matlab/Simulink environments.
