Abstract
An interior permanent synchronous motor (PMSM) is possible to be operated in the extended-speed-range constant-power region when it is under the flux-weakening control. Some works have been done on the flux-weakening effect on the continuous mode operation on the PMSM. Here, the detailed simulation on the discontinuous mode operation of a PMSM under the flux-weakening control is stated. It is found that the operation on the discontinuous mode operation on the PMSM is very different from that with the continuous has conduction operation. Thus, a new model will describe the behavior on the discontinuous mode operation. It is realized with numerical software, MATLAB/sup TM/. Also, the effect of the flux-weakening control is more significant in a light-loaded system.
