Abstract

Abstract This paper describes an integrated power unit (IPU) supplying bleed air and shaft power for main engine starting, aircraft environment control, and in-flight emergency power demand. The zero-dimension steady-state numerical simulation model of the IPU is built for both the normal air breathing (NAB) mode and the stored energy (SE) mode. The design point of the IPU is set in the NAB mode and the off-design performance calculations are accomplished for both modes. The Altitude-Mach characteristic of the NAB mode and the altitude characteristic of the SE mode are discussed and the fundamental control laws of the SE mode are established to minimize stored air consumption. The overall efficiency of the IPU is illustrated in the paper for the two modes.
