Abstract
This paper discusses a novel DC hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB) with crossed poles, which the independent levitation magnetic circuits with two degrees of freedom (two-DOF) are obtained. The two-DOF levitation forces are naturally decoupled. Firstly, the configuration and levitation principle are introduced, respectively. Secondly, the mathematical models of the levitation force are deduced. Finally, the three-dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to analyze the electromagnetic performances. Furthermore, comparative researches are carried out with the traditional HMB. The research results have shown that the structure and magnetic circuit of the new HMB are correct. There is no force coupling, and large levitation force can be obtained.
