Abstract
When a sand/straw mixture (HSF/LBP type) is fluidized with air, a high degree of segregation can appear, with the sand settling at the bottom of the bed (jetsam) and the straw rising to the top (flotsam). A new model, based on that of Gibilaro and Rowe but accounting for the particular characteristics of the solids used, has been developed. Reasonable agreement with experimental data has been obtained. The values of the parameters that fit the experimental results for a wide range of conditions are obtained.
