Abstract

LCC resonant converter operating in discontinuous current mode (DCM) can realize zero current switching (ZCS) turn-on and turn-off of power switches and ZCS turn-off of rectifier diodes. Therefore, the converter is suitable for high power switching power supplies where IGBT are employed as the power switches. This converter has three main operating modes, two of which have been analyzed and designed respectively in previous literatures to reduce component stresses and improve the converter efficiency at the full load. As the operating mode is related to load, this paper considers all of the three operating modes to analyze and design the converter. This design reduces RMS current of resonant inductor in the entire load range, therefore improves converter efficiency in the entire load range. A 5 kW, 50 V prototype is built to validate the effectiveness of this design method.
