Abstract

AbstractMobile users' micro‐usage behavior on smartphones has got researchers' attention, while current studies have not focused on the mobile search context. This study aimed to understand the characteristics of micro‐usage behavior in mobile search sessions and the triggers for them, through mixed methods. The findings revealed that micro‐usage mainly occurred on social and communication APPs. Searching for information about games and health can trigger more micro‐usage. Besides, chatting with others was the most important causes of micro‐usage. This study helps to better understand mobile usage behavior and micro‐usage in a search session.
