Abstract

The article is devoted to the revision of the Peasant Reform of 1861 in the territory of some of Belarusian provinces. The author considers the problems of slow reform implementation, its revision and mass resignations of offi cials responsible for the reform progress in the eve of the Polish uprising of 1863–1864.He reveals the connection of events, the presence of signs of widespread corruption and sabotage of the reform. He shows the replacement of executive offi cials (social mediators) and extensive measures aimed at correcting errors and falsifi cations, introducing a number of benefi ts for the peasantry that smoothed out the negative aspects of the reform.
