Abstract
In order to investigate the Mn 3d electronic structure in IV–VI ferromagnetic semiconductor Ge 1− x Mn x Te, we have carried out the Mn 3p–3d resonant photoemission spectroscopy (RPES) and Mn 2p–3d soft X-ray emission spectroscopy (SXES). The Mn 3d partial density of states derived from the RPES spectra and the excitation-energy-dependent SXES spectra indicate that the Mn 3d states of Ge 1− x Mn x Te are nearly localized with the divalent character.
