Abstract

This text intends to analyse a passage of Plato’s Republic III on kinds of poetry and elocution. Some variation in use of vocabulary relationed with idea of imitation ( mimesis ) is observed. This fact seems to introduce problems to understand the meaning and aims of the doctrine. I try to propose a way of explaining and solving that semantic variation, basing analysis on theses the dialogue has just established.
