Abstract
Abstract The mixed-mode failure problem of notched components remains a complex subject. On the basis of the multiaxial fatigue limit equation by Liu and Yan, in this study, an empirical failure equation to assess mixed-mode fracture of notched components is proposed. By using the test data of mixed-mode fracture failure of notched components from the literature, including the rounded-tip V-notched Brazilian disc specimens, rectangular plate specimens with a central blunt U-notch with different notch radii and notch angles, the empirical failure equation has been verified to be not only simple in computation form but also high in accuracy.
