Abstract
The article presents an overview of the author’s work about evaluation of library services and applied research in library. In particular, the article examines the role of evaluation activities in relation to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs of the 2030 Agenda. Libraries are key institutions: access to information is essential in achieving the SDGs. About this, the article highlights the work of IFLA and what AIB is doing in synergy with the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (Asvis). The article describes the activities of the first survey on Italian libraries by Istat, in line with the creation of an information system for libraries, starting from the ICCU register of Italian libraries. The article examines the role of narrative methods and qualitative research for measuring the social impact of libraries. Finally, it presents some conclusive considerations regarding the future of evaluation of library services and applied research in library.
