Abstract
Este artículo reflexiona alrededor de la idea de lenguaje en Alejo Carpentier desde sus crónicas y ensayos. Tras un esbozo general sobre el barroco carpenteriano y sus cercanías con el giro descolonial, indicaré de qué modo su concepción de la identidad afrocaribeña y su lectura de Eugeni d’Ors y Jean-Paul Sartre se convirtieron en la brecha oculta por la que se introdujeron en su prosa presupuestos esencialistas sobre la identidad americana y el lenguaje.
