Abstract

Otitis media is commonly encountered in patients, both before and after cochlear implant placement. Infection in the presence of an implant may lead to life-threatening complications, such as meningitis, or require device removal. Management of otitis media in cochlear implant candidates and recipients is controversial. In this session, approaches to the management of acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, chronic suppurative otitis media, and cholesteatoma will be presented. Illustrative cases will be discussed.
