Abstract

The Late Eocene rocks near Gabal Libni, northern Sinai consists mainly of claystone. The mineralogical and the geochemical analyses indicate that this shale consists mainly of montmorillonite of homogenious major elements. This shale may be used in the economic application of the sodium bentonite.
