Abstract
Mineral fertiliser consumption in Slovakia is approximately 42–57 kg NPK per hectare of farmland, while 10 years ago in 1989 it was 240 kg. Nitrogen fertilisers account for 66–71 % of this amount and phosphorus and potassium the remaining 29–34 %. The yields of the main crops (cereals, potatoes, sugar beet, oil plants, annual and perennial fodder crops) did not decrease with a similar tendency. Cereals, oil crops and fodder crops yields have decreased only by 10–30 %, while potato yields have been increased by 10 %, sugar beet yields by 10–15 % and corn maize by 25 %. This can be due to the relatively high rations of nitrogen fertilisers even to these plants and by sufficient supply of available forms of phosphorus and potassium in the soils.
