Abstract
This article presents the results of an experimental programme devoted to inspecting the validity of Miner’s rule under one-dimensional conditions on Zbraslav sand and Malaysian kaolin. For this purpose, a series of stress-controlled oedometer tests were performed, considering packages of cycles with varying axial stress amplitudes in different sequences. The experimental results suggest that Miner’s rule is valid under one-dimensional conditions for both types of soils. Furthermore, a numerical inspection of the experimental tests was conducted, employing advanced hypoplastic models extended with the intergranular strain improvement. The comparison between experimental measurements and numerical predictions reveals that the models were able to accurately reproduce the experimental tests. However, they only predicted Miner’s rule for certain sets of material parameters.
